Self defense, sparring or real fighting can be expressed in many ways. Usually we look at these and think that we should have a specific movement or answer to every situation that can occur. The problem with this is that we can never train specifically for every situation individually and pull off that individual response when we need to, let alone follow up with multiple moves after. This is movie fighting which is very unrealistic.

Every situation has multiple answers or outcomes and there is never really one absolute way to deal with any situation. So that means to be effective, we have to train in a way to make our decision process simpler and quicker to ensure we have the best response. We also have to train in a way that allows us to adapt as no situation is fixed. We have to look clearly at our intention and the principles of our chosen martial art or fighting style. Luckily if you train in Wing Chun Kung Fu one of your principles is directness/simplicity. So we train to become sensitive to movements and lines of attack. This helps us to group together situations making our expression simpler.

At Raw Wing Chun we look specifically at training to simplify our approach. Making our movements not only direct but economic, meaning we use good movement mechanics and as least effort as possible so as little muscle as possible. Our approach is to express our movements in a conical way, meaning our intention never leaves our opponent but can adapt along the way.
